Sunday Review: 5/3/26

On Sunday, May 3, 2026, Matthew Williams preached the message “Heed the Spirit’s Prompting” from Acts 8:26-40. To listen to this message again, click here. See below for discussion questions on this passage and message.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. Do you expect the Spirit to prompt you to do or say things even in situations where you don’t have the whole picture (Galatians 5:25, Romans 8:14)? How do you know when the Spirit is prompting you? How do you respond?

  2. How do we test the Spirit’s prompting (1 John 4:1)? Which danger are you more vulnerable to - ignoring the Spirit’s prompting or mistaking your own thoughts for God’s direction? What can help us guard against these temptations?

  3. When you struggle to understand a passage of scripture, how do you ask others for help? Is there someone in your life who doesn’t know Jesus whom you could you invite to study God’s Word?

  4. Philip models for us how Jesus is the answer to the troubles of the human condition. He was equipped with God’s Word and His Spirit. What scripture do you have readily in your memory to be able to speak to the four parts of the gospel story mentioned in the sermon: God, man, Christ, response? Name at least one verse for each one.

  5. In a world defining success as “bigger is better,” where do you need to be faithful to sow in obscurity for God’s glory? What helps you leave the results to the Lord and not demand to know the end from the beginning?
