DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. It looked like everything was going wrong for Israel (again). Yet God was still at work bringing his perfect plans to pass. Where do you need renewed faith that God is still sovereign and good?

  2. Why is God focused on our heart, not our outward appearance? Where are you tempted to assign undo significance to appearances in the way you evaluate yourself or other people?

  3. What sort of outwardly promising kings are you prone to trust instead of the King God has already provided?

  4. David knew God had anointed him king, yet he cheerfully served Saul (a rejected king). Where is the Lord calling you to humble service (enemies included) instead of grasping for superiority or recognition?
