  1. What mark of God-centered love is displayed by David’s men more than David himself in the first part of Chapter 18? Where do you want to grow in prioritizing God’s glory and the good of others over your own comfort and ease?

  2. What does Absalom’s death tell us about the purposes of God? In what ways is it both sobering and comforting?

  3. In what areas of your life are you tempted to think you know how to secure or enforce justice better than God? Where do you need to humbly wait for God’s justice instead of functionally saying, “I will not waste time like this with you.”

  4. What are some of the differences between self-centered and God-centered grief? How is David’s grief in 2 Samuel 12 and Jesus’ grief in Mark 14 different from David’s grief in 2 Samuel 18?

  5. What are some things we should not do as Christians when we find ourselves stuck in self-centered grief? What are some things we should do?
