DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. Describing 2 Samuel 22:7, Matthew said, “This is where sanity and wisdom in God’s world always begins: In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I called.” What lies do we believe when we do not call upon the Lord in our trouble?

  2. Can you relate to David’s descriptions of being trapped, attacked, and drowning all at the same time? What does it look like to cry out to the Lord as your rock, fortress, and deliverer?

  3. 2 Samuel 22:8–20 reveals God’s salvation as decisive, wholehearted, personal, timely, and Word-driven. In every respect, God’s salvation is glorious! How do these dimensions of God’s salvation reveal his glory in your life?

  4. 2 Samuel 22:28 says, “You save a humble people, but your eyes are on the haughty to bring them down.” Why is denying our need for God’s salvation spiritually deadly?

  5. Matthew explained, “You can know you’re growing as a Christian not when you need the Spirit less but when you feel your need for him all the more!” Where do you need the Holy Spirit to empower you today? How can you cry out to the Lord for salvation and step out in obedience?

  6. What is the theme of your life story? If you are in Christ, how do you center your story on the salvation of God so you are always prepared to share the hope that is in you?
