Sunday Review: 12/14/25
On Sunday December 14, 2025, Josh Kruger Sr. preached the message “The King is Coming” from 2 Samuel 23:1-7. To listen to this message again, click here. See below for discussion questions on this passage and message.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
What does 2 Samuel 23:1 tell us about the God who chooses the lowly? What other examples reveal God’s way of choosing to exalt the humble? See 1 Corinthians 1:26-29.
Why do verses 2-3a give us confidence that what David says about the coming king is true? See 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
How do verses 3b-4 describe Christ’s kingly rule? Consider comparing this to the truth proclaimed in Charles Wesley’s great hymn, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing:
Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
risen with healing in his wings. If you repent of your rebellion to trust and serve God’s chosen king, how does verse five describe the goodness experienced in his kingdom? Do we experience the fulfillment of these promises to the king now or when Christ returns in glory?
According to verses 6-7, what is the sure end for all who, in their pride, reject God’s chosen king? How does this compel us to pray and share the gospel of the kingdom?
Our benediction came from 1 Peter 5:6-7: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” What anxieties can you humbly cast on Jesus, knowing that your king cares for you?
