Sunday Review: 8/28/2022
On Sunday, August 28, 2022, Matthew Williams preached the message “Clothed in Christ (Part II)” from Colossians 3:12-17. To listen to this message again, click here. Please see below for discussion questions for this past Sunday’s message.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
When you look at the list of Christian virtues outlined in Col. 3:12-17, are you more prone to think that these are the Christian’s “rules to live by” (and therefore you need to work hard to excel in each of them) or as virtues formed in you by God, because you are his chosen, holy and beloved child? What is the tension between these two views?
Matthew defined the word “love” in Col. 3:14 as “the heart attitude that delights in what God says is good and is devoted to helping all the people around you experience what God says is good.” How is this different from what the world calls love? Would your friends and family say that you delight more in what God says is good or in what you yourself think is good and enjoyable?
What does it mean to “let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts” (Col. 3:15)? How is this peace the result of the gospel?
Why is gratitude not optional for Christians? To what degree do you consider yourself to be a grateful and thankful person? What should our response be when we notice a lack of gratitude in our own lives?
If the “word of Christ” (in Col. 3:16) is the gospel message of Jesus, how can we let it dwell in us more richly?
Col. 3:16b shows us the result of “the word of Christ dwelling in us richly”: it is that we will teach and admonish one another in all wisdom. Why is it critical to the body of Christ that we teach and admonish one another in all wisdom? How can we develop and encourage this virtue more?
