Christians in every age have been bombarded with lies about the supremacy of Jesus Christ and about the sufficiency of His gospel to save, change and utterly satisfy. That was true for the Colossians, and that is true for us today. We do not have to look far to find the "message of this age", that anyone can find fulfillment in themselves and that everyone is the master of their own fate and joy.

In his letter to the Colossians, Paul uses particularly vivid language to debunk these lies and to proclaim the power of the gospel, that gospel that has at its heart the Son of God, supreme in creation and in the church ... Christ above all.
