Prayer of Confession:

We come before you this morning acknowledging you as the Supreme Authority, God Almighty over our lives. You are our ultimate provider and the one who satisfies our hearts and every need. While we know this, we acknowledge and confess this morning that we do not live that out in our lives.

We confess to you that we run to the fleeting pleasures of the world to satisfy our cravings and needs.

We look to people in power and those in positions of authority for security. We look to media and entertainment to fulfill cravings of joy and happiness. We run to relationships or money to find meaning and validation. We confess that we have not sought after You and looked to You for ultimate fulfillment.

Your Word says, "I am the Bread of Life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst."

Lord, we ask that you give us a desire for You and Your Word. That each day we would seek after You and Your desires for our lives. That we would lead by example what it means to follow You and Seek You. We pray that each day, through hardships and trials, that we would run straight to You, the water that never runs dry.

Forgive us for times where we are fearful of man and we let fear control us.

We pray that You would guide us to your word and run to You for shelter.

Lord, we know that this life is fleeting and things fade quickly.

Help us to live for You and Seek You, Our Bread of Life. Keep us focused on Eternal Things and Your Kingdom.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Where are you laboring right now for bread that perishes?

  2. How have you seen Jesus nourish your soul as you have learned to trust and depend on him?

  3. Where do you need to grow in being persistent in faith?

  4. You might be waiting to see Jesus, but you are not waiting to have Jesus. How has this truth encouraged you this week?

  5. Do you use your experience of Jesus’ nearness as a measure of whether you are united with Christ?

  6. How have you seen God transforming you so that his peace, joy, wisdom, righteousness, priorities, sorrows, etc. become your own?
