DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
David showed loving-kindness to Mephibosheth in chapter 9 and to Hanun in chapter 10. What do their contrasting responses teach us about the way people receive or reject grace? See John 3:16-21.
David acts as a king who covers the shame of his people in verse 5, pointing us to Christ. How does King Jesus cover our shame, and how does that grace protect and empower us? See Isaiah 61:7.
Joab calls for courageous action for the good of God’s people. How does the Lord call us to build up the body of Christ with courageous faith? See Ephesians 4:25-30.
Joab’s faith in God's sovereignty and goodness is clear in verse 12 when he says, “May the Lord do what seems good to him.” How does the sovereignty of God give rest for our souls as we labor in a broken world?
Confidence in the providence of God enables us to entrust our lives to the Lord, even amid deep personal suffering. Where is the Lord calling you to patiently trust Him? See James 1:2-12.
By the end of chapter 10, we see David victorious over other kings. Who are you prayerfully pursuing with the good news of the King of Kings? See 2 Corinthians 5:16-21.
