  1. Can you think of an example from your life where you tried the “just do it” approach to changing your behavior and it didn’t work?

  2. When you’re convicted of sin, what’s your typical first response? Does anything hold you back from immediately crying out to God for mercy?

  3. David sinned because he was a sinner. What does that mean?

  4. When you confess sin to the Lord, do you tend to limit your focus to your behavior? In what area of your life do you need to follow David’s example of heart-level confession?

  5. Why does God often feel far away when we sin? What exactly are we asking him to do when we pray for cleansing and restoration?

  6. Experiencing God’s mercy in Jesus opens our lips to proclaim his goodness to other people? Who have you done that for in recent weeks?
