DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
How would you describe to a Christian friend and to a non-Christian friend what it means to “walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him”? (Col 1:10)
Paul says that we are to continue to live lives that are “rooted and built up in him” (Col 2:7). How are those metaphors applicable to us, and how can we help each other grow in being “rooted and built up in him”?
If you are honest with yourself, can you say to Jesus (like Isaiah said Is. 26:8) “your name and your renown are the desire of my heart”? Explain your answer. What are other competing desires in your life? How can Christ become your primary desire?
Paul says in 1 Cor. 2:2 that he decided to know nothing among them except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. How can you and I grow in “knowing nothing except Christ and him crucified”?
If we abide in Christ, our lives should bear fruit (produced by the Holy Spirit) that confirms that we were delivered from the domain of darkness and transferred to the kingdom of his beloved Son (Col 1:13). Why is it essential that we examine ourselves to see whether this “fruit that authenticates our faith” is actually present in our lives? What are ways that you and I can do this? How should we respond when we either find or do not find fruit that authenticates saving faith in our lives?
