September Prayer Night Points
On Sunday evening, September 13, we gathered together for a fall prayer night to pray for corporate holiness. Prayer points and scripture readings from the meeting are below for your continued use.
Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people, once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. - 1 Peter 2:10-12
Pray for holiness in our marriages
Praise God for creating marriage to show us what his covenant love for us is like
Thank God for using marriage to make us more like Jesus
Help us nourish and cherish our spouses instead of taking them for granted
Work humility and trust in the reconciling power of God in couples mired in conflict
Bring salvation for church members’ spouses who do not know Jesus
Build close, discipleship relationships between older and younger married couples
Keep married couples faithful to their vows by empowering them to flee sexual temptation
Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. - Hebrews 3:12-14
Pray for holiness in our Christian friendships
Praise God for making us part of a church family where we are not alone in the fight against sin and for holiness
Thank God for specific ways he has used other believers to help you become more like Jesus
Give us courage to confess our sins and pray for one another
Help us to rejoice in one another’s victories and blessings instead of becoming jealous
Teach us to speak the truth in love through words of encouragement and correction
Give us humility to seek and give biblical counsel to one another
Deliver us from being selfish with our time; give us a desire to build new relationships
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. - 1 John 2:15-17
Pray for holiness in our relationship to the world
Deliver us from finding our greatest joy in material possessions
Teach us how to use earthly treasure for eternal good
Give us courage to gracious defend biblical convictions when pressed to compromise
Teach us to practice the fruits of the Spirit in all we communicate on social media
Make us wise and discerning in the entertainment we consume
Help us to fear God more than we fear man and share the gospel with corresponding boldness
Deliver us from making an intimate companion of someone who is not an intimate companion of God
