2024 GREAT COMMISSION PROJECTS
Traditions are a gift from God. They preserve priorities. They renew vision. They prevent what feels urgent from elbowing out what is more important.
One of my favorite traditions at KingsWay is devoting a Sunday in the first quarter of every year to focus on the mission God has set before us. He’s commissioned us to make disciples of all nations, helping men and women in RVA and around the world to enjoy a growing relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ (Matt 28:19-20).
We used to call this Sunday International Missions Weekend. This year, we renamed it Great Commission Sunday to capture both the local and global reach of our mission. The advancement of the gospel in our city, in our own region of the world, matters just as much as what God is doing in Thailand or Namibia. Here are few of the anticipated highlights from our 2024 Great Commission Sunday (March 24):
Josh Blount, pastor of Living Faith Church in Franklin, WV, will preach on the mission of the church. Christians and non-Christians alike have all kinds of ideas about what the church should be busy doing. What does God want us to prioritize?
We will read, sing, and pray God’s Word in different languages
We will share testimonies and opportunities to grow in loving our neighbors with the good news of the gospel
We will enjoy our international potluck lunch while watching video updates from our global missions partners
We will receive our annual Great Commission Fund offering
Last year, we raised over $40,000 for a variety of missions projects. There are three projects we believe the Lord would have us get behind financially in 2024:
$10k to help establish Sovereign Grace Church of Windhoek, Namibia. It was a privilege to send Josh Kruger Jr. to plant this church at the end of 2023. We are eager to continue supporting them as they begin public meetings later this year.
$8k to translate Christian books into Thai so our partners in that country have resources to disciple new believers
$10k to set aside in a new, local church planting fund. Christ has placed the church at the center of his mission strategy. We believe the Lord wants us to prepare financially to plant another church in our region 3-4 years from now.
Please ask the Lord to show you this week how he wants you to contribute to our Great Commission Fund in 2024. It’s an incredible privilege to advance the gospel through these projects. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
