Pastor's Blog: Praying and Receiving Prayer

regional prayer for kingsway

Throughout the month of August, other Sovereign Grace churches in our mid-south region prayed for KingsWay. Intentionally lifting up one another’s specific requests to the Lord is a regular practice amongst our sister churches.

What encouragement and strength come from knowing that our denominational brothers and sisters are praying for our congregation here in Midlothian. Here are the prayers that have been prayed on our behalf this past month:

  • Wisdom to continue preparing Josh Jr. to plant a new Sovereign Grace church in Namibia before we send him out in January 2024

  • Favor on all three ordination candidates, Josh Kruger Jr., Caleb Collins, & Quinton Cools, as they take their oral exam this fall

  • Supernatural love fueled by the gospel that builds community across demographic lines

  • Continued vision and courage in corporate evangelism, particularly as various members have recently started Bible studies with non-Christian friends or begun introducing their non-Christian friends to other members

  • Repentance for wayward sheep who are running from the Lord and under discipline

  • Provision of 4-5 new community group leaders

  • Outpouring of spiritual gifts, particularly the gift of prophecy

praying for our members

Family relationships were the focus of our prayers at our recent August prayer meeting. God’s Word has much to say about family relationships, and we do well to align our hearts with the Lord’s (Malachi 4:5-6 and Ephesians 5:31-33).

And when we are struggling with a loved one, let us be quick to take our concerns to Him, because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7 and Philippians 4:6-7). At the meeting, we prayed through the following family dynamics, amongst others. Be encouraged that if one of these dynamics is something you are walking through, your KingsWay brothers and sisters have prayed for you.

  • Parents with adult children who grew up in the church but are not walking with God

  • Fathers tempted to passivity or anger in training their children

  • Mothers exhausted from physically serving young children

  • Children caring for an aging parent

  • Married couples who have minimal conflict but no meaningful spiritual fellowship

  • Married couples struggling with infertility

  • Dating couples who are discerning God’s will for their relationship

  • Members who need courage to lovingly confront a family member
