October Prayer Night Points

On Sunday evening, October 10, we gathered together to pray for elected officials. Prayer points and scripture readings from the meeting are below for your continued use.

Pray for Our State and Federal Authorities

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus…” (1 Tim 2:1-5)

Governor Northam, Lt. Governor Fairfax, Attorney General Herring, VA Senators & Delegates, VA Supreme Court Justices, President Biden & VP Harris, VA Senators & Representatives: Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, Robert Wittman (1st district), Donald McEachin (4th district), Abigail Spanberger (7th district), and the US Supreme Court Justices

  • Salvation for those who do not know Christ

  • Wisdom for making difficult decisions that affect the lives of many people

  • Courage to persevere in doing what is right even if it is not popular

  • Humility that recognizes they rule under the authority of God

  • A teachable spirit that is willing to learn and compromise on wisdom issues

  • Moral integrity in their private character

  • Self-control in the face of rancor and slander

Prayer for Our Church

“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” – Romans 15:5-7

  • A deep unity in Christ that transcends our political differences

  • Ability to distinguish between straight line and jagged line issues

  • See political issues more as wisdom issues and less as matters of tribal identification

  • Humility and gentleness to speak and write words that build one another up

  • Courage to winsomely defend moral convictions that are politically unpopular

  • A worldview that is built on Scripture, not our favorite cable news channel

  • An unshakeable confidence that God is on the throne and the gospel will prevail
