The Great Commission: Local & Global Next-Step Opportunities

the great commission:

local & global next-step opportunities

It was a joy to gather as a church family last weekend for Great Commission Sunday!

The Lord has given us a unique mission entrusted to no other organization on planet earth – to make disciples of Jesus Christ (Matt 28:18-20). What’s a disciple, you ask? Someone who is wholeheartedly following Jesus in every area of life. That’s why we say our vision at Kingsway is to be a people who help one another enjoy a growing relationship with God. It's a way of saying, “We’re committed to being a church of disciple-making disciples.”

The sermon Josh Blount preached laid out the biblical categories we need to complete the mission – preach, practice, and wait. The testimony Josh Kruger Sr. shared reminded us we are always on mission, even in the secular workplace (1 Peter 3:15). And the global partner updates we watched broadened our awareness of how God is accomplishing his mission through ordinary people like us.

Praise God for a reason to get up in the morning that’s infinitely more glorious than our comfort, convenience, or security in this world. Our lives are not our own. We’ve been bought with a price. The gospel has set us free to make much of Jesus. We focused on the local expression of our mission on Sunday morning and the international expression on Sunday afternoon. And we have next-step opportunities in both areas!

On the local front, sign up here to participate in a 2-session study I’m leading on Mack Stiles’ fantastic book, “Evangelism: How the Whole Church Speaks of Jesus,” on Saturday April 27 and May 18 from 8:30-10:00am. Spots are limited, so be sure to register before Sunday, April 7.

On a global front, take a few minutes to watch Dave Taylor, our denominational Director of Global Missions, as he shares highlight stories of God’s work in Sovereign Grace churches in 2023.

Our Great Commission (GC) Fund projects for 2024 include both local and global mission initiatives: 10k for the church plants in Windhoek, Namibia; 8k for translating discipleship resources into Thai; and 10k to kickstart a church-planting fund we believe God wants us to build over the next 3 years to prepare for planting another church in RVA or another city in Virginia. You can give online to the GC Fund here or write “GC fund” in the memo of a check you place in our regular, Sunday morning offering.

Our God is able to do more through KingsWay than we could ever imagine. To Him be glory in the church, now and forevermore.
