It seems a week never goes by without me hearing a new story of how the members of Kingsway are caring for one another. I don’t say that to boast in who we are, but to thank God for making us more like Jesus.

As some of you know, Jim Howe received a hip replacement last month. Listen to how Jim describes what he and his wife, Irene, experienced after the surgery.

God has truly blessed Irene and me! When I returned home from the hospital in July, Irene and I were overwhelmed by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit through many of the people of the church. Working with John and Jody Dingwell’s Community Group, they brought daily meals to our house for almost two weeks. As I was sitting in my chair thinking of all the blessings, the Holy Spirit started to speak to me. He showed me that his act of using the people of the church to bring meals was his way of expressing to Irene and me the fruit of the Spirit in his people at Kingsway. This expression of love, faithfulness and care, shows how much the Holy Spirit is working on us…”

Here’s my favorite part of Jim’s testimony. We don’t have an official ministry that’s responsible for providing meals to hip replacement patients. The church members who know Jim simply saw a need and jumped in to help. That’s called biblical community (Acts 2:44-47). That’s called being the hands and feet of Jesus to real people in real difficulty. And I am confident it brings joy to the heart of God. Well done, Kingsway!

Matthew Williams grew up attending KingsWay and joined the pastoral staff in 2009. God has blessed him and his wife, Aliza, with three rambunctious boys, Ethan, Micah, and Tyler. Matthew did his undergraduate work at the University of Richmond in chemistry and political science, spent a year at the Sovereign Grace Pastor’s College, and is nearly finished with his Masters of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
