On Sunday, October 6, 2019, Matthew Williams preached the message, “Embrace the Work of the Spirit” as part of our current series, Living with the End in View from 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22. - What is the connection between our attitude toward the Spirit’s activity and our experience of the spirit’s activity?
- Using scripture as the basis, how would you describe the gift of prophecy? What has been your experience (either historically or in the present) with this spiritual gift? Is the discussion about prophecy something that you are intrinsically comfortable with or is it a difficult topic?
- Matthew taught that, especially when speaking about spiritual gifts, the alternative to abuse is not disuse. Why is this? When seeking to adamantly avoid abusing spiritual gifts, why is it just as bad to eject them from our practice all together?
- Matthew also taught that God does not give some of us the responsibility to desire spiritual gifts and others to test gifts. Rather, if you are a Christian, you must take part in both desiring spiritual gifts as well as testing the use of spiritual gifts. Which side do you naturally err on? In what ways should you grow to become more balanced in both these responsibilities?
