Below is a brief review of our meeting on Sunday and a few discussion questions for Community Group or personal study this week.

Josh welcomed all and opened our time together with announcements about the Connect Deskand upcoming Starting Point class. He then led a call to worship from Psalm 145.

We sang How Great is Our GodLord I Need YouGreat Are You Lord, and Let Your Kingdom Come.

Matthew invited all to worship God through giving their offerings and reminded everyone about the different ways to give.

Matthew then prayed for

Yesterday marked the first Sunday that we spent studying in the book of Daniel as part of our new series, DominionMatthew preached an introductory message that can be listened to again here.

After the message we sang Sovereign and Josh closed our time together with a benediction.

Discussion Questions:

1. Why is this place in time such a pertinent opportunity to study the book of Daniel? If Daniel is written for a group of exiles, how can we identify with that classification?

2. What was Babylon like at this time in history? What was the religious climate of Shinar? What would have been the general populous’ view of Christianity?

3. Matthew taught that we don’t obey God in order to be loved by Him, rather we obey because we are loved by Him. What does this mean?

4. What is the significance of the locution in verse 2, “And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah king of Judah into [Nebuchadnezzar’s] hand…” (emphasis added)? How is God’s sovereignty displayed even in what seemed to be awful luck for the exiles?

5. What is an area of your life that it is difficult to trust the Lord’s plan amid hard circumstances? Though you cannot see the purpose behind the difficulty, what should your response be?
