On Sunday, November 24, 2019, we celebrated Thanksgiving as a church family. We had an extended time of singing and an open mic to publicly give thanks for what God has done this past year. Dave Beckner prayed a Prayer of Confession and Matthew Williams led worship. Below is Dave’s prayer.
Prayer of Confession:

Heavenly Father, we are so honored to be in your presence this morning and thank you for the privilege of living in a country where we are still able to gather and worship you freely. Yet, as we now stand before you, we recognize that we are flawed beings who are completely undeserving of your mercy and grace.

We confess that we have taken You and all blessings you have provided for granted, and having grown so accustomed to having much, we fail to give thanks and gratefully acknowledge the One from whom all is received. We spend one morning of the week praising and worshipping You, but curse our neighbor the next day for a perceived wrongdoing. How petty we’ve become as a people that we refuse to tolerate the minor indiscretions or inconveniences caused by others, while all too often exhibiting indifference to the sin around us in the workplace or in our homes.

Lord, in our sin we have dishonored You and damaged our testimony by failing to follow the example You provided when you taught us how to live and pray in your Word, that if we are to expect Your forgiveness, we must be willing to forgive others. We confess that at times, our behavior in private falls short of what you would have it to be, and in doing so we are overcome with guilt and shame. But now, we humbly pray for the forgiveness that comes only from You through the sacrifice of your precious Son.

We plea as David did in Psalm 51, “Have mercy on us, O God, According to Your loving kindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out our transgressions.  Wash us thoroughly from our iniquity, and cleanse us from our sin.”

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
