Last week Matthew & I had the privilege of joining with 25 pastors from ten churches in our region (VA, WV, NC, SC, TN, & KY) for our first regional assembly of elders. Our first order of business was to elect our regional leader (Mickey Connolly) along with members for each of the regional committees (church planting, judicial, ordination & nomination).  Matthew & I were elected to the committees of our choice…church planting for me and ordination for Matthew.  We discussed how we’ll relate together as regional churches and there was a strong desire to hold regional conferences every year or two including a family conference (like the old Celebration conferences) in 2015.  We ended with a wonderful time of prayer for the churches in our region.

During the two days we shared meals and meaningful fellowship as well as fun relationship-building times like a bowling competition which the Virginia team lost.  Our penalty was to serve dinner to the winning team.  It fell to me to serve Mickey which was quite a treat.

Several of the churches have been through difficult times over the past couple of years, but Matthew & I were encouraged by the faith and joy evident throughout.  There was a palpable unity of heart that made our gathering deeply meaningful.  We’ll be watching for fruit in the months ahead, but we’re encouraged that our region is off to a great start.  Thank you for your prayers.  I’m attaching some photos for your enjoyment.

Matthew Williams grew up attending KingsWay and joined the pastoral staff in 2009. God has blessed him and his wife, Aliza, with three rambunctious boys, Ethan, Micah, and Tyler. Matthew did his undergraduate work at the University of Richmond in chemistry and political science, spent a year at the Sovereign Grace Pastor’s College, and is nearly finished with his Masters of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
