Cindy Hickman is organizing a small ensemble of men and women who will sing at special music events throughout the church calendar year. A short explanation of her vision for the group is copied below. I’m excited to work with this group on Easter morning!
The word “worship” often brings to mind the picture of David before the ark of the Lord, worshiping God with abandonment and humility. And yet, David is also described as one who was skillful at playing. The Levites were no different. God set them apart to continually worship him with music in the temple. That must have meant a lot of practice!
I am grateful that we purposely worship simply and humbly but I also have a yearning to experience and take part in the “skillful” music which entails practice. Not feeling qualified, I have waited many years for choirs to materialize. I have sung in large choral groups like the Richmond Symphony Chorus and small ensembles at other churches. But my desire to worship with likeminded believers has left me hoping some sort of small, vocal group with regular rehearsals would materialize at Kingsway.
God has finally convinced me to start a group and trust him for the its direction and outcome. By God’s grace, we are hoping to gather a small group of 12-16 people willing to practice at least several times a month. Rehearsals will be after church (maybe 12:15pm-1pm). The only prerequisites are the ability to match pitch and a commitment to attend rehearsals. We hope to spend time learning to listen and blend together so we can progress to singing a cappella.
