This past Sunday, Gabe Bowman shared about the upcoming Men’s Retreat at Eagle Eyrie Baptist Conference Center in Lynchburg, Va. Read his words below.
Having attended Kingsway for just over a year now, I was eager to see there was an opportunity to get to know some other guys from the church, and have a context outside of Sunday mornings to connect and share fellowship. I have been to similar events like this in past years and have experienced times of great fun, fellowship, teaching, and food (yes, they are all important).
I will avoid preaching about the value of teaching and accountability, but I will share a brief thought. Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” And Psalm 1:1-2 says, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law the Lord and on his law he meditates day and night.”
Here are two very simple examples from scripture that show the benefit of gathering as men to hear teaching, share stories, and care or pray for one another. It is my desire that God will use this time to minister to us and strengthen our relationship with him first, and with one another as well. I am also sure there will plenty of time for laughter and fun too (after all, we are a bunch of guys).
The topic for the retreat is “Lessons from the Life of David.” I think we will find many relatable lessons from these messages, and see how God worked then and is working now.
I ask that you would seriously consider investing this time for retreat and growth.
