The Bible is a book overflowing with promises.  Most of them are promises God has made to his children.  For example, if you’re facing a big decision, God makes a promise to you in Psalm 25:8-9.

“Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in the way.  He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.”

God said that.  God always keeps his promises.  So here’s how I pray.

Father, you are good and upright.  You have promised to instruct and lead me.  I’m weak.  I’m a sinner.  Thank you that in Jesus I have a great Savior.  Do what you have said you would do.  Instruct me.  Lead me.  Teach me your way.  I believe you will, Father, because you have already promised to.  Be faithful to your word.  I need you.  Amen.

Tim Kerr, senior pastor of Sovereign Grace Church, Toronto, has created a manual of scripture promises to help Christians pray God’s words back to him.  This booklet has enabled me pray with greater confidence on many occasions, because I know that if I pray in keeping with the word of God, then I am praying in accordance with the will of God.  And what God has willed to accomplish always comes to pass!

Matthew Williams grew up attending KingsWay and joined the pastoral staff in 2009. God has blessed him and his wife, Aliza, with three rambunctious boys, Ethan, Micah, and Tyler. Matthew did his undergraduate work at the University of Richmond in chemistry and political science, spent a year at the Sovereign Grace Pastor’s College, and is nearly finished with his Masters of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
