Raising children is a joyful labor. It’s both unbelievably rewarding and incredibly difficult. Part of the difficulty is that you don’t get to warm up for the hard moments. They come when you least expect them and feel altogether unprepared to respond with gentleness and patience.

I’m grateful God doesn’t respond to our weakness as parents by telling us to shape up. The Lord knows we need help. And he has promised to give us all the help we need.

2 Pe 1:3, “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence…”

We have a real need. God has a real solution. That’s why we devote part of a Members Meeting every year to child dedications. Three things take place during child dedications at Kingsway.

  1. Parents make a public commitment to teach their children how follow Jesus
  2. The rest of the church makes a public commitment to help parents fulfill God’s call on their life
  3. We pray as a congregation for the salvation of our children

Most of the child dedicated each year are infants, but some are not, and any parent who has not publicly dedicated their child is welcome to participate regardless of their child’s age. To register for child dedications on Sunday, November 16 @ 6:30pm, simply fill out this form.

Matthew Williams grew up attending KingsWay and joined the pastoral staff in 2009. God has blessed him and his wife, Aliza, with three rambunctious boys, Ethan, Micah, and Tyler. Matthew did his undergraduate work at the University of Richmond in chemistry and political science, spent a year at the Sovereign Grace Pastor’s College, and is nearly finished with his Masters of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
