Beginnings (1989)
Gene and Liz Emerson moved their family from Franklin, West Virginia, believing God was calling them to plant a church in the Richmond area.  Approximately 30 adults and their children moved from other Sovereign Grace Ministries churches to join Gene and Liz.  KingsWay Community Church was founded in Gene & Liz Emerson’s home in early 1989 as Southside Church of Richmond.

Town Center Cinemas (1989 - 1991)
Our first public meeting took place on Easter Sunday in the new Chesterfield Town Center movie theater complex.

Midlothian High School (1991 - 1996)
In 1991, the church began meeting at Midlothian High School. That same year, we sent out several families to help plant a church in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Swift Creek Middle School (1996 - 2005)
In 1996 we moved to Swift Creek Middle School.  In 1999, we purchased land on Charter Colony Parkway across from Midlothian High School. The property included a two-story house, which was converted into our church offices. Our church gave sacrificially to a building fund that enabled us to pay off the loan on the land in less than two years. At the end of 2000, several KingsWay families joined a team to help establish a Sovereign Grace Ministries church in Roanoke, Virginia.

In September 2002, we changed our name from Southside Church of Richmond to KingsWay Community Church, and clarified our mission together "To Glorify God by Knowing, Applying & Proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

Sovereign Grace Drive (2005 - Present)
In October 2005, we moved into our new facility with a grand opening on November 13. Since then, we've added many new friends to our church family and a new classroom wing to the building. In April 2009 we had the joy and privilege of sending Ken & Tiffany Delage along with a number of families to plant a new church, Sovereign Grace Church of Fredericksburg.
